It's Been Awhile
By Jazmyn Crosby
Wonder ah the wonder
Of twinkling friend
Staring across in your direction
The word smiles broadly and sweet
With its cartoon clay features
Today
Immaculate immense
Orange light
Autumn leaves fall
Into our tea
Little words stagger
Intoxicated mouth to mouth
Holy corrupt our lady lies upon time
Groping with dingy fingers at seconds
To hide underneath
Her stuffed pillow
So she can contemplate a rhythmic
Tick tick
Regain what time stole
Elusive latching teeth
Rip and grind
Large urban beetle
Wheels, grease, and oil
Glide upon a concrete ocean
Seat belts and beats
Drifting into oblivion
Sugar candy plastic
wrapped around your wrist
How easy it is to fall in love with a city
Home is where you leave your heart
Dissipate through doorways
Wire railroads
Spiral
Spin away
Plastic shovels dig to no avail
Catch autumn leaves in your teeth
Spit them out
Crusty and dry
Wonder what it is to wonder
